Who is Deepak?

I could never forget that day. October 19, 2010!

Things were all going well. Married. My son was a year old.

What could go wrong?

Then it all crashed in an instant.

My manager called me to his cabin and handed over the termination letter. There were praises written, with the final sentences:

Unfortunately, your services are being terminated. Please meet the HR team for further information.’

  • What would you do?
  • What did I do?

My initial reaction: RAGE!

  • Blamed my manager;
  • Blamed the company;
  • Blamed my parents;
  • Blamed my teachers;
  • Blamed the economy.

Blame! Blame! Blame!

Except I did not blame myself.

After everything cooled down in a week, it finally dawned on my senses.

Never give control of your life to anyone else.

And there started my journey of personal growth and development.

Take extreme ownership of your life.

How would you take ownership of your life?

It’s easier said than done.

When I learned about this, I poured myself into self-development and learning the best skills I could.

One thing I realized was that to live a successful life, you will need to take care of the following FOUR important aspects of your life.

Or what I call my framework:

— FMPR —

  • Financial Fitness
  • Mental Fitness
  • Physical Fitness
  • Relationship Fitness

If you optimize these things in your life, I’m sure you will find success and satisfaction.

Well, you must now be thinking:

who is this guy talking about all these?

Hello, my name is Deepak.

deepak machado

I’m a writer and investor.

I help my readers with personal finance and investing.

My core principles in life are:

  • Continuous Learning
  • Continuous Personal Development
  • Stoic Living

I’m passionate about building wealth.

And I’d like YOU to learn this.

In this blog, you will find my thoughts on personal finance, investing, and self-development (personal growth).

I write about:

  • Bitcoin
  • Books
  • Investing
  • Mindset
  • Stoicism

Stoicism changed me, literally!

The main theme behind stoicism is:

only think about what you can control.

So I made this my core mantra.

When you combine stoicism with any part of your life, you will find the sweet spot.

So, I blend Stoicism to everything:

  • Stoicism + Investing
  • Stoicism + Personal Development
  • Stoicism + Career
  • Stoicism + (whatever)

When I started doing this for a long time, I saw a pattern evolving.

For example:

In investing, I know what I could control.

I can control my emotions, I can control the level of research on a company before I invest.

What I do not have any control over are the macro-economic aspects such as GDP, Wars, Politics etc. I can not control whether an asset price goes up or comes down.

What I do control is whether I can hold onto the investment or sell it.

My mentor once mentioned: investing is more about emotions than anything else.

So I go deep in my research when learning about the companies, investments. Doing the best I can to learn about the company I will invest in.

My favorite quote: Stoicism

The chief task in life is simply this: to identify and separate matters so that I can say clearly to myself which are externals not under my control, and which have to do with the choices I actually control. Where then do I look for good and evil? Not to uncontrollable externals, but within myself to the choices that are my own.
